Razor blades in donuts |
Carole Lee Leazer-Hardman, 39, and Michael Condor, 35, are accused of hiding the blades in the sweet treats sold at Smith's Food and Drug store in Draper, Utah.
They then ate several of the pastries - which saw them ingesting the razors, which ranged from fingernail- to thumbnail-sized pieces.
Hospital X-rays showed they had several blades inside their stomachs.
A Dollar Store co-worker, who was unaware of their scam, was also handed a doughnut - and suffered cuts to her mouth.
Cops said they were initially contacted by the couple who complained they had eaten "tainted food" laced with the blades.
The doughnuts, which were in a tamperproof packet and shipped from out of state, were pulled from the store's shelves as a precaution.
But detectives said something "didn't add up". Questioning Condor, he later admitted to planting the blades inside the donuts to try and extort money from the firm.
Both have been charged with filing a false police report and assault.
