The X-Men: Days of Future Past star was at an A-list shindig at the Cannes Film Festival hosted by Vanity Fair and Armani on Saturday night when she made the off-the-cuff remark in front of Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron.
The 23-year-old, who is frequently hailed for her refreshingly frank and fun-loving nature, was apparently so excited to see the director she screeched and approached him, quipping: “I broke out my rape scream for you!”.
The comment has drawn widespread criticism and calls for an apology.
Celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton wrote: “We know you’re always open and honest in interviews, but COME ON, a rape joke?!?
“We’re sure she thought that what was said at the party was private, but even still, that’s no excuse for a rape joke!! They’re not funny, ever.”
Democraticunderground.com wrote: “This time, however, Jen may have unintentionally shown fans a bit too much of her private side. Here’s hoping she does some damage control before there’s any permanent harm to her career.”
The Hunger Game s star has yet to make public comment.
However she did chat about her post-Oscars puking experience overnight, on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.
In case you missed it, JLaw ended up throwing up at a fancy Oscars after-party while teen queen Miley Cyrus looked on.
“I was in such bad condition and I look behind me and Miley Cyrus is there, and is like, ‘Get it together,’” Lawrence said on Late Night.
On the upside, she got to meet Brad Pitt that night, so it wasn’t all bad: “He smelled like sandalwood.”
