Airline Lipstick Ban: A move away from secular styles in Turkey
Turkish Airlines announced on Friday that they will ban their crew from wearing red lipstick and nail polish while in-air.
"As a consequence of our current cabin uniforms not including red, dark pink, et cetera, the use of lipstick and nail polish in these colors by our cabin crew impairs visual integrity," the aircraft carrier said in a statement. As an alternative, the airline prefers "simple make-up, immaculate and in pastel colours," the Telegraph reports. Critics have spoken out on social media against the restrictions, which may mark a cultural shift in Turkey.
According to Fox News, this decree reflects a move away from secular styles in Turkey and an attempt to bolster the country's Islamic values.
