After being discovered with gun, ammunition and a knife in a backpack, the two boys confessed the were planning to lure a female classmate outside to kill her for being "really annoying."
"I was going to kill her with the knife and [the other boy] was supposed to use the gun to keep anyone from trying to stop me or mess up our plan," the older boy told detectives, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lech Radzimski wants to press criminal charges against the boys, but state law makes it difficult to charge juveniles that young with a crime.
The older of the two boys is eleven years old. The other is ten.
"This is the first time for us doing a capacity hearing on doing this one someone this age," Radzimski told KREM in Spokane. The pair attempted to bribe a classmate with $80 to keep their plot a secret, evidence she will present at a special hearing on February 20.
Multiple reports say the boys also had six other targets among their classmates.
Schools have been on high alert for such a rampage since a shooter stormed a Connecticut elementary school in December, killing 20 students and six staffers.
