Burger record 777Some very ambitious cooks made history at the Alameda County Fair Saturday when they grilled the world's largest commercially available hamburger. Fair organizers said it was for a good cause. Individual bites were sold for 99 cents, and the proceeds went to the Alameda County Food Bank.

Officials from the Guinness Book of Records were on hand to verify that the burger was bigger than the 595-pound burger that held the record.

"The old record was held in Canada and we wanted to bring it home to America on the 4th of July," says Nick Nicora of Ovation Food Services. He along with Brett Enright of Juicys traveling barbecue catering service were the masterminds behind the burger.

The big burger has approximately 1,375,000 calories, which is enough to feed one person for almost 2 years.

Trimmings include a 110-pound bun, some 20 pounds of onions, 12 pounds of pickles, and 30 pounds of lettuce.
