Girl mistakenly invites thousands to birthday party

Girl mistakenly invites thousands to birthday party
Girl mistakenly invites thousands to birthday party. Rebecca Javeleau, 14, accidentally made her small birthday party a public event on Facebook. The event page — which included a photo of Ms. Javeleau, her phone number, and her address — quickly circulated among users ridiculing the girl’s mistake. Many RSVPed that they would be attending the party, due to be held in a small town in Hertfordshire, England.
Tracey Livesey, the girl’s mother, cancelled the event. She has also taken away Rebecca’s internet access so “she won’t make that mistake again.”

Happy Birthday, indeed.

Despite the event’s cancellation, there are fears thousands will still turn up in the small town of Harpenden, which has a population of 30,000.

Police are planning to patrol the area on Oct. 7, the day of the planned bash.

The mishap has once again sparked criticism surrounding Facebook’s always controversial privacy settings, although the website maintains that its event settings are separate and public postings are “clearly” indicated.

But it’s safe to say that Ms. Javeleau’s version of “clearly” differs from Facebook’s.
