Security Stepped Up Ahead Of Queen’s Ireland Visit

Security Stepped Up Ahead Of Queen’s Ireland Visit
The British Times newspaper is reporting this morning that security ahead of the Queen of Englands visit here next week is being stepped up following an attempt by dissident republican terrorists to buy missiles and rocket launchers.

According to the newspaper the arms buying plot came to light in recent weeks. The security risk is now considered so high that armed Metropolitan Police Royalty Protection Officers will be deployed on the streets of Dublin.

Up to ten thousand Gardaí and members of the Defence Forces are also expected on the streets in the biggest security operation ever mounted here.

Meanwhile, parking restrictions on around 30 streets in Dublin have come into affect today.

Barriers will be erected along these streets over the weekend and will remain in place until Friday.

Kildare commuters can get a full list of the streets affected on www.garda.ie.

Superintendent John Gilligan from the Garda Press Office is advising people to keep informed and updated on what's happening.
