Current Mayor Carlos Alvarez faces a recall election on March 15. If voters recall Alvarez, Miami-Dade commissioners must decide whether to appoint someone to serve out Alvarez's term or hold a special election.
Campbell said if there's a special election, he will run for mayor. If the commission chooses to appoint a mayor to serve out Alvarez's term, he said he will run in the general election in November 2012.Campbell said his platform is about problems such as unemployment, racism and killings in Liberty City."When you look at crime, the same crime that's occurring in my neighborhood where I grew up, that's been occurring since I was a kid. I'm born and raised in Miami, Fla.," Campbell said. "When I come back home, I don't see the improvements, and it's because of the politics of this town. Nobody wants to see little kids getting killed. At the same time, nobody wants to see officers getting killed, as well."
