Mary Barra first job General Motors intern. General Motors named Mary Barra to succeed Dan Akerson as chief executive officer, making her the first female CEO in the global automotive industry. Akerson is retiring Jan. 15, and Tim Solso was named chairman.

Akerson, CEO since 2010, turned 65 in October and his wife was recently diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer, GM said in a statement. Solso is the former CEO and chairman of Cummins Inc. Dan Ammann, the chief financial officer, was named president of the company.

Man Sues Napkins. FAST FOOD CHAIN McDonald’s has a bit of a tissue issue on its hands.

TMZ reports that Webester Lucas is suing the company for $1.5 million (€1 million) following a dispute over napkins in a California restaurant.

Lucas claims he ordered a meal at McDonald’s in Pacoima, California on January 29th and was only given one napkin with his purchase.

He says he approached the counter to ask for extra serviettes, but his request was rudely refused by the general manager.

Chrysler took the preemptive step this week of recalling nearly half a million vehicles because of issues with the active head-restraint function found in several makes and models.

The problem is related to a "potentially faulty microcontroller (that) entered the supply chain after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan caused a worldwide microcontroller shortage," Chrysler Group said in a news release issued Wednesday.

In March, PepsiCo Inc. and Coca-Cola Co. said they would adjust their formulas across the U.S. after California passed a law ruling drinks with a certain level of carcinogens display a cancer warning.

But that's not the case with a letter written to LIAT, a small airline serving 21 destinations in the Caribbean. The complaint waged in a letter to the airline is so funny that it prompted another airline's CEO to tweet it to his more than 3 million followers.
