A 23-year-old employee at the Dundee branch admitted putting the pipe in the box to hide it while he worked and he didn't mean to give it out.
The Detroit family had been at the nearby Splash Universe water park when they stopped at the Burger King for something to eat.
Chief David Uhl said the four-year-old's grandfather entered the restaurant on Tuesday night to pick up some food.
The chief says the family discovered the pipe and notified police.
Uhl says police arrested the employee and two friends, ages 18 and 20. All three are awaiting charges.
The Monroe Evening News reported that police found hashish and other drug paraphernalia inside the car occupied by the two men, who do not work at the restaurant.
All three men were arrested on the scene. Formal drug possession charges are pending.
Chief Uhl said it is unclear how the pipe and marijuana made their way into the kid’s meal packaging.
'He hid it somewhere in the store. We’re not quite sure how it ended up in there.
'Somehow, somebody picked it up and stuck it in there when they were packaging up the food. It is definitely strange.'
