The No Me Ames singer performed the patriotic anthem in New York City at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, but was criticized online for being "un-American" by many viewers.

One person took to Twitter and wrote, "Why is Marc Anthony singing God Bless America? He's not even American. Should have got someone sweet like Ke$ha."

Anthony, who is of Puerto Rican descent, addressed the controversy during an appearance on morning show Live With Kelly & Michael on Thursday (18Jul13) stating, "There were some statements made that people were upset that they would have someone from another country sing the National Anthem. To set the record straight, I was born and raised in New York, you can't get more New York than me. I'm more Puerto Rican than ever and I'm more New York than ever."

He further explained that it was an honor to sing the song, but he had to conquer his nerves: "It's just so gratifying, it's such a unique experience. You say yes because of the honor, you can't deny that."
