Larry David too lazy for more Curb, Larry David refused to confirm if there will be another season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” The writer and comedian was on hand at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Thursday to promote his coming HBO film, “Clear History.”
“I have not decided, I don’t know,” the writer said of a future season of “Curb.” Pressed again moments later, he said, “I’m just an indecisive fella. You should see me at a restaurant, I’m lazy.”
Directed by Greg Mottola, “Clear History” debuts August 10 and follows a man who opts out of a start-up, only to discover he would have made billions if he had stayed.
David said he decided to make a film because he wanted to try something different. “Clear History” walks a delicate balance between forging its own path and staying similar in tone to David’s previous projects.
“The thing that kept me up at night was that the movie would be either too much like ‘Curb’ or not enough like ‘Curb,’” said Mottola.
Mottola and David gave their fellow actors a 35-page treatment that detailed story arcs and plot, but left it up to the individual actors to create their own dialogue.
“90 percent of actors love to improvise and everybody in the movie took to it so easily,” said David.
The film also stars Jon Hamm, Bill Hader, Amy Ryan, Kate Hudson and Danny McBride. Mottola and David said they made an effort to cast the film with actors beyond the scope of “Curb,” with the exception of JB Smoove.
“It’s hard to say no to JB,” said Mottola. “Larry and JB together is pure gold,” he added.
