Former child star Amanda Bynes has been struggling through 2013, and it has now been revealed by her parents in court that they think her troubles are due to mental illness. They say she has a drug problem, has spent over $1m in a “very short amount of time”, is incredibly paranoid and is homeless.
Rick and Lynn Bynes sought conservatorship over their daughter, who they say is “extremely paranoid about being watched”. However, that request has – for now – been denied, according to People magazine, meaning Amanda won’t have to answer to her parents.
“She would cover smoke alarms with towels, tape windows shut and cover her car dashboard with cardboard and tape out of fear that cameras were watching her from inside these places,” Mr and Mrs Bynes said in court papers following a closed hearing on Friday morning.
After allegedly trying to set fire to a neighbour’s property earlier this week, the 27-year-old actress is now in an involuntary psychiatric hold.
A new hearing over Amanda’s conservatorship is scheduled for 9 August.
