Cannibal Porn Star Killer In Paris - Police close cannibal porn star killer using tracking mobile phone signal leads Paris hotel.
The ‘cannibal’ porn star accused of killing and eating parts of a former lover has been traced to France using his mobile phone signal.
Acting on a tip from a witness, police used the device to track Luka Rocco Magnotta to a hotel in the suburb of Bagnolet, Paris on Saturday.
Magnotta, 29, is on the run and has been spotted 'out drinking' in trendy bars and staying in an upmarket hotel in Paris, according to French police.
He faces charges of threatening Canada's prime minister after mailing a severed foot to his Conservative party headquarters, officers in Montreal said yesterday.
A hand addressed to the Liberal party of Canada was found at the PM's offices on Tuesday, while a torso was discovered in a suitcase on a garbage dump in Montreal, outside Magnotta's apartment building.
Police identified the victim as Chinese university student Jun Lin, 33, who they believe had dated Magnotta.
Police intend to launch a cold case review of unsolved murders as soon as they catch Magnotta, who is now the focus of an international manhunt and has been evading Canadian authorities for eight nights.
The former gay porn actor is wanted for first-degree murder, defiling a corpse and using the mail system for delivering 'obscene, indecent, immoral or scurrilous' material.
A Montreal police source said: 'The number one priority for us is catching Magnotta.
'But you can bet as soon as we've done that we'll be going through cold cases, unsolved murders, to see if there are any links to him at all.'
Montreal Police Commander Ian Lafreniere said detectives believed Magnotta had fled to France on May 26 based on evidence they found at his apartment.
Montreal police have said they believe Magnotta fled for France based on evidence they found at his apartment and a blog he once wrote about how to disappear.
Parisian officers said the suspected killer stayed for two nights with a gay man he met in a nightclub before his terrified host spotted his photo on the internet.
France's police fugitive search unit said it had now received 'credible information' from eyewitnesses who claim to have spotted the psychopath.
The unit told French daily Le Parisien he had been seen in the trendy Bastille district in the east of Paris, an area of the city highly popular with young British expats.
The paper said one bar owner told police: 'He came into my bar and sat drinking and chatting. He seemed very excited.'
A police source told the paper how another man said he had put Magnotta up in his flat for two nights early last week after meeting him in a gay nightclub.
The police source said: 'After he left, the man realised who he had had staying and contacted us.
'It is then thought he went out in the evenings drinking in the Bastille district and staying in a cheaper hotel in the east of the city.'
Another barman described in detail how he believed Magnotta had also drank in his bar in the western Paris district of Batignolles last Friday night.
The man told police: 'He seemed very nervous and speaking in English he ordered a coke to take away.
'I put a bottle on the bar and told him we didn't do take-away and he had to drink it there.
'He then began speaking in French with a strong accent and told me he was very thirsty. He knocked the Coca-Cola back in one.
'Another man with a very well-honed physique then came in and started talking to him. They clearly knew each other.
'They both started trying to chat up other clients before they paid in cash and left, walking off in the direction of a nearby hotel.'
A receptionist at a four-star hotel near the Champs-Elysees also told us she believed Magnotta had stayed there the same night.
The Paris police source said: 'She later identified him from a photo.'
Police suspect Magnotta filmed the murder after a video was posted online showing a man stabbing another man with an ice pick while the victim lies naked and tied up.
The first man later reveals he has slashed the other man's throat and goes on to dismember the corpse and perform sexual acts with it.
Police have confirmed that the sickening film is authentic, according to The Sun.
Mr Lafrenière said: 'The film is just so graphic and disturbing.
'Imagine the worst horror movie you’ve ever seen and it’s worse than that and it’s real. The murderer just tears the victim apart like a doll.'
Another online video shows a man who looks like Magnotta committing violent acts against kittens.
The video contains at least one photo made available by Montreal police that identified the man as Magnotta. For nearly two years, animal-rights activists have been looking for a man who tortured and killed cats and posted videos of it online.
'This is the kind of guy that's looking for attention,' said Mr Lafreniere. 'He likes to glorify himself with the web. The web will glorify him and the web is also going to bring him back to justice because there are a lot of pictures of him out there and it will help lead him to us.'
Police said Magnotta's birth name is Eric Clinton Newman and that he is also known by the name Vladimir Romanov. They described him as white and 5 feet 8 inches tall with blue eyes and black hair.
Mr Lin was a Concordia University student from the central Chinese city of Wuhan, according to the Chinese consulate in Montreal.
Police believe he was killed and his body dismembered either on May 24 or 25 in a Montreal apartment. A ten-minute video showing what transpired was then posted online.
It allegedly showed Magnotta killing Jun with an ice pick, decapitating and cutting him up, sexually abusing the corpse and then eating him with a knife and fork.
Magnotta fled by plane to Europe, police said, prompting global police agency Interpol to alert authorities in 190 countries.
Police have reason to believe Magnotta might have gone to Eastern Europe, given his Russian pseudonym and writings on his Web page.
On Friday, police had indications that the suspect may have been aboard a flight travelling from Paris to Montreal but there was no sign of him after a search of the plane, Mr Lafreniere said.
That same day, one of Magnotta's transsexual lovers revealed that the fugitive harboured murderous fantasies towards people and animals.
Magnotta dated Nina Arsenault for a short time a decade ago, and left an indelible impression on the 38-year-old prostitute and journalist.
'I'm afraid that when you look into my eyes...that you'll see that there's nothing inside of me,' said Magnotta to Ms Arsenault after they first met when he worked as a stripper in Toronto.
Speaking to CityTV as a trans-Atlantic manhunt closed in on her former lover, Ms Arsenault described the suspected murderer as a 'manipulative pathological liar - one f****d-up kid.'
Ms Arsenault, who has spent up to $150,000 Canadian dollars on sex change operations, met Magnotta when he was 18.
'I first met him as Angel, but then he told me his real name is Luka — and he also referred to himself as Rocco,' said Arsenault.
'He was my very first lover after I started living as a transsexual.
'He would joke about killing animals. He would joke about killing people — that he wanted to kill his family.'
The freelance writer also admitted that Magnotta would get high on mind-bending drugs and was obsessed with Madonna and James Dean and would do 'anything' to be famous himself.
She described odd behaviour from Magnotta, such as punching himself in the head while he was in the shower and possessing a temper and 'if it went on it was terrifying.'
'He hated his dad. He hated his family and said they didn't understand him and he had to get away from him,' added Ms Arsenault.
As Magnotta evaded police in Canada and France, the Montreal police chief predicted that his addiction to celebrity would cause him to make a mistake.
'What will hinder him the most is what he used to glorify himself on the web, with all the photos we have of him,' said Mr Lafreniere.
The chief added, 'Magnotta is someone who can disguise himself - he can change into a woman, wear a wig.'
Because of this, police released a sketch that showed how he would look as a woman with long dark hair and sporting a fringe.
As police scoured the apartment that Magnotta lived in, Mr Lafreniere confirmed that he had left Montreal by air on Saturday and arrived in Paris the next day.
'We’re not going to give you his final destination because we believe he could be anywhere at this point,' he said.
'We’re engaged in a worldwide search — more than 190 countries are helping us.'
French detectives have told the Mail that Magnotta took a flight to Paris last Saturday.
'He’s obsessed with the Eiffel Tower and the Moulin Rouge and is confident that he can lie low in a country he loves. All efforts are being made to arrest him.'
Police fear the gay porn star may now have slipped into Britain. Six months ago, he was living in a £40-a-night room above the Fusilier Inn in Wembley, north London, while sightseeing in the capital.
While in the UK, he was confronted by journalists after posting an Internet film showing a live kitten being fed to a snake. In an email to The Sun in December, he supposedly said: ‘You will be hearing from me again. This time, however, the victims won’t be small animals.’ He sent a similar warning to the BBC.
The murder is said to have taken place the night before Magnotta flew out of Montreal.
Lafreniere said investigators are now scouring the internet in case Magnotta – who has posted extensively on social networking sites – has bragged about his escape from justice. He also warned that the fugitive is ‘someone who can disguise himself; he can change into a woman, wear a wig.’
Magnotta has gained notoriety among online animal rights activists, who pegged him as a serial kitten killer who used cat carcasses in sexual acts.
A Facebook group started in December 2010 dubbed him the 'Vacuum Kitten Killer', after a video was posted on YouTube showing kittens being killed by suffocation and drowning.
Mr Lafreniere has said police are aware of the animal abuse allegations.
On what appears to be his own website, Magnotta defended himself as a victim of cyber-stalking.
‘Once and for all, I will set the record straight,’ he wrote. ‘Many hoax websites are created using my image and name, posing as me to seem more believable in respect to the type of audience these website [sic] have, I feel I don't need to list them specifically but people need not be told, not to believe what they read and to take it as fact.’
The website has writing in Arabic and Russian, and shows images of Magnotta half-naked and pouting.
Police say the victim in the horrific attack, Mr Lin, had been in Montreal since July last year. His family lost contact with him on May 24.
Days later a janitor found his limbless body in a suitcase near Magnotta’s apartment in the city and other body parts were found in the flat. The video of the killing is called ‘1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick’ and shows a man tied to a bed frame being hacked with a kitchen knife and the ice pick.
As in the movie American Psycho, about a New York serial killer, the gruesome footage is set to the New Order song, True Faith.
Magnotta is said to have once dated Karla Homolka, a notorious Canadian sex killer who slaughtered schoolgirls.
Ms Arsenault, the transsexual who dated Magnotta a decade ago, told Canadian media that his anger came from problems with his family.
She said that after they met in a strip club they dated for only three weeks because Magnotta was so unstable he would pick fights in the street.
She said: ‘He hated his dad. He hated his family and said they didn’t understand him and he had to get away from him.’
