Steve Parsons takes suicide pill in court

Steve Parsons takes suicide pill in court, A screen shot from Fox4KC shows Steve Parsons, who allegedly committed suicide by taking cyanide in a Missouri courtroom.

A US man found guilty of sodomising a 14-year-old girl killed himself in court by allegedly swallowing cyanide, moments after a verdict was handed down.

Steve Parson, 48, from the state of Missouri, went into respiratory failure, FOX4KC reports. He was facing a maximum of seven years in prison.

“I can’t speculate to what he was going through but I’m firmly convinced that his death was not a result of a wrongful verdict by the jury,” said Jerry Biggs, the Gentry County Prosecuting Attorney.

Parsons was already well known to the courts, with pages of charge sheets, including traffic violations, civil suits, criminal charges, probation violations and a protection order.

Biggs said the death was a tragedy on top of a tragedy; for the family of the perpetrator and the victim who had taken the stand. “This was a girl who had been wronged and was determined and brave enough to make things right,” Biggs said.

Toxicology reports on Parsons have not been finalised but it is understood he ordered 100 grams of cyanide and had it shipped overnight on June 25, the St Joseph Post reports.

The judge has closed the case and sealed the court records.

In June, 2012, millionaire businessman and ex-Wall Street trader Michael Marin, 53, took his own life the same way, only minutes after being convicted of deliberately burning down his Arizona mansion.
