Chris Brown's representative has criticised the sponsors of a Canadian concert who pulled out of the event after discovering the controversial singer is among the performers. The Kiss Kiss hitmaker is scheduled to headline the Energy Rush concert in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 31 August (13), but bosses at telecommunications firm Rogers Communications, one of several sponsors of the show, decided to axe their support for the gig after learning of Brown's inclusion on the bill.
A spokesperson for the company told E! News, "Rogers has been a sponsor of the Energy Rush concert series for the last seven years... Our agreement to continue sponsorship of the series was made before Chris Brown's appearance was announced. "However, as soon as he was confirmed as one of eight performers, we decided to withdraw our sponsorship at this time. We have shared a great partnership with the local radio station for the last seven years and we appreciate their understanding of our decision." A representative for the star, whose bad boy antics have made headlines in recent years, was quick to criticise the decision, adding, "It's a shame that some people are so short-sighted and uninformed. Chris is an award-winning artist whose goal is to inspire and entertain. He engages in many philanthropic endeavours to support his community and communities worldwide... "Chris strives to learn from his past and to grow as a person, as we should all do. Chris is looking forward to being a part of the Energy Rush Concert Series." Brown is currently on probation for his 2009 assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna and was allegedly involved in a car park bust-up with singer Frank Ocean in January (13).
