Watermelon Oreos arrive in time for summer

The Oreo cookie has gotten a fruit-flavored summer makeover.

Limited edition Watermelon Oreos hit the shelves of Targets nationwide on June 10. The latest seasonal variation of the classic black-and-white treat features bright pink and green creme sandwiched between two Golden Oreo cookies.

Believe it or not, these cookies aren't made with real watermelon, but they are reportedly enjoyable. Blogger Junk Food Guy wrote that he was "shocked" to discover that the cookies were "good, REALLY good."

"They didn't have the overbearing sweetness that the Candy Corn Oreos or the Blizzard Oreos or even the Birthday Cake Oreos had," he wrote. "No, these were subtle in flavor, with just enough watermelon to make me smile."

Oreo has released some zany versions of the cookie in its 101-year history, including the sickeningly sweet-tasting Candy Corn variety.

This summery treat isn’t the brand’s first fruit- flavored cookie — raspberry-and-blueberry Oreos as well as mango-and-orange ones are popular in China.

The watermelon cookies are available at Target for about $3 a box.
