Rite Aid scam

Rite Aid scam

Authorities are warning the public about a new scam involving a phony sweepstakes and the Rite-Aid drug store chain.

In the scam, a caller tells the victim that they have won $18,000 but in order to collect the money they must purchase a “Green Dot card” for $500 to cover taxes on the winnings, reported the Associated Press.

Greendot cards are a pay-in-advance option, which is used like a debit card at Rite-Aid stores. In the scam, they are used to take someone’s money.

The scam has been reported in several areas of Pennsylvania. No arrests have been made.
