Chevrolet revived the nameplate for the 1997 model year as an all-new front-wheel-drive sedan

Chevrolet revived the nameplate for the 1997 model year as an all-new front-wheel-drive sedan. Be they in two or four-door guise, no other vehicle offers the practicality, versatility, and mass appeal of the common sedan. To qualify as a sedan, all a car needs is more than one row of seats, a hard roof, and a trunk in the back. That's pretty much it. Because the definition is so loose, there have been a multitude of different sedan designs over the years.

Chevrolet Malibu

The Chevy Malibu may invoke images of hot rods and drive-in burger shacks, but the modern Malibu bears little resemblance to the American classic. After being phased out in the 80s, the Malibu nameplate was revived in 1997 for Chevy's latest front-wheel-drive, four-door sedan. The formula was improved with minor changes in 2004 and an all-new car was launched in 2008. That body-style sold for another five years.
