The proud mom, identified only as Nedz, and her husband planned to name the boy EK - the Middle East airline's flight code, Persian Gulf newspaper Xpress reported.
Nedz, who was six months pregnant, went into labor on Aug. 22 aboard the long-distance flight about two and a half hours before touchdown, the newspaper said.
"When I saw the mother walking toward the toilet, she seemed to be in pain. The father was restless … walking back and forth, nearly in tears, so I offered to help," Karen Caballes-Santos, a nurse from the Philippines who said she was sitting beside the couple, told the newspaper.
The 35-year-old woman eventually gave birth in the bathroom, and Caballes-Santos and a second nurse who was aboard, plus four flight attendants, swaddled the new baby in airline blankets and used LED reading lamps to keep him warm.
The youngest passenger was also having trouble breathing, so the crew gave him an oxygen mask.
Pilots landed the Boeing 777 at an airport in Ho Chi Minh City, and the family was rushed to a local hospital.
The little boy remained in critical care in the neonatal unit at Tudu Hospital, the newspaper said.
