Pattycake, Gorilla at NYC's Bronx Zoo, Dies at 40. The first gorilla born in New York City has died at the age of 40 at the Bronx Zoo. She had been suffering from chronic cardiac issues for some time until she passed away Sunday.
Born in 1972 at the Central Park Zoo, where she lived with her parents, Kongo and Lulu, Pattycake was transferred in 1983 to the Bronx Zoo. Pattycake gave birth to 10 babies, including twins in 1995, and her offspring now live at other U.S. zoos.
