Tornado In Socorro New Mexico, The National Weather Service said a tornado has hit the ground in Socorro County.

The video above, submitted by viewer nmontoya, was shot in Magdalena around 1:50 p.m.

Around 2:30 p.m weather service officials issued a tornado warning for central Socorro County.


That warning has expired, but southeast New Mexico is under severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m.

A storm with winds more than 69 miles per hour was reported 7 miles west of Belen. It's reportedly moving southeast at 25 miles per hour.

Doppler radar spotted a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado over central Socorro County, roughly 20 miles southwest of Socorro.

People are urged to take precautions by leaving automobiles and mobile homes and moving into interior rooms or hallways.

Stay away from windows and outside walls.
