Armed Man On Southern Methodist Campus - Police responded to reports of an armed man barricaded on the Southern Methodist University campus around noon on Monday.
The man who was wanted for an early morning carjacking in Dallas reportedly holed up in the cab of a crane being used to build residential housing on the campus.
Police said he claimed to be armed and was apparently hurling his shoes and other items at officers and threatening to jump.
In addition to campus police, air, tactical and sniper units from Dallas and Highland Park were called to help.
Several streets surrounding the university were shut down. The school was put into lock down.
