"I'm now a real international lady," Dunst reportedly told German tabloid B.Z., "one who can film in Europe without a problem." "It would be the greatest joy for me to act in a German film," she added.
Dunst, 29, also reportedly recently stated she would be delighted in particular to play the legendary Berlin-born singer and actress Marlene Dietrich in a biopic film.
The B.Z. article recently revealed that she now holds dual citizenship of the US and Germany.
Dunst, however, said that she only has a very basic grasp of German, stating that she speaks "at a child's level".
But she has already acted in a European production: Dunst stars in Danish director Lars von Trier's latest film, Melancholia, alongside Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard. The apocalyptic drama follows the lives of two sisters - including Dunst as a beautiful young bride trying to stay upbeat at her own wedding - while Earth is about to collide with an approaching rogue planet.
Dunst, whose background is German and Swedish, received the Best Actress award at the 64th Cannes Film Festival in May for her performance.
Kirsten Caroline Dunst was born on April 30, 1982, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, to Inez (nee Rupprecht) and Klaus Dunst, a German medical-services executive.
Dunst reportedly stays in touch with and frequently visits her German relatives who live near Hamburg. And she has indicated that she is considering purchasing property in the German capital.
"I would prefer to buy an apartment in Berlin," she told B.Z. "It's such a young city, and right now so much is happening in Berlin."
